Professor Peter Mwaba

Professor Peter Mwaba is a distinguished academic and researcher. He is a consultant physician and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Lusaka Apex Medical University, where he previously held the position of Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
Prior to his current role, Professor Mwaba held several prestigious positions. He served as the Head of Department of Medicine at the University Teaching Hospital, where he conducted extensive research and clinical trials. Additionally, he was a senior lecturer at the University of Zambia School of Medicine and co-director of the University of Zambia-University College London Medical School (UNZA-UCLMS) Project. This project involved several groundbreaking clinical trials that significantly impacted global HIV management policies. Professor Mwaba's research also included basic science studies in TB diagnostics.
He served as Permanent Secretary in the Zambia Ministries of Health and Home Affairs, prior to that, Professor Mwaba held the position of Senior \ Medical Superintendent/Managing Director at the largest Teaching Hospital in Zambia, the University Teaching Hospital.
Professor Mwaba holds an MBChB degree and an MMed degree, both from the University of Zambia, a PhD from the University of London, and a certificate of Public Administration from the National Institute of Public Administration, Zambia. His academic achievements have been recognized through his fellowships in the Royal College of Physicians (Lond), the Royal College of Physicians (Edin), and the College of Physicians (ECSA).
Professor Mwaba's commitment to public service has led him to serve on various boards, both in government institutions and the private sector. He has also been involved in numerous local and international committees. He previously served as the President of the Zambia Medical Association. He has co-authored chapters and books, and published more 130 peer reviewed articles.
